Molecular Biology Research Technician

My client are a well known and highly respected food research institute, seeking a research technician to work in their microbiology department.

The bulk of the work carried out in the department is the invesitgation of product shelf-lives, predictive modelling of microbe growth and challenge testing on a wide range of organisms relevant within the food industry.

 

The successful candidate will have:

•           A strong interest in science with an aptitude to learn new skills

•           A good standard of general education and computer literacy

•           Strong communication skills and fluency in English

•           A UK Driving license is essential due to the site of work

 

During employment the technician will be given the opportunity to learn skills in the following and other techniques:

•           Sample preparation

•           DNA Extraction

•           RNA extraction

•           Next generation sequencing (NGS)

•           Use of standard molecular biology equipment

•           General food spoilage and food safety research

•           Sample receipt and preparation for culture – independent analysis

•           Ability to work within the requirements of recognised quality systems e.g. UKAS. ISO 9000

Salary: £16,000 per annum
